Description
A sweet, spicy, and slightly tangy dish that’s a popular favorite in Chinese cuisine, perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breasts (cubed)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp red chili pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by marinating the cubed chicken in a mixture of paprika, garlic salt, and a pinch of salt for at least 30 minutes.
- Combine sugar, water, and white distilled vinegar in a saucepan, then heat until the sugar is dissolved. Add soy sauce and chili pepper flakes for that signature flavor.
- In a shallow dish, combine flour and cornstarch. Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan, and once it’s hot, carefully add the chicken pieces in batches. Fry until they are golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, then drain them on paper towels.
- Toss the fried chicken in the prepared sauce until fully coated, and serve immediately.
Notes
For perfect results, avoid overcrowding the frying pan to ensure every piece gets that beautiful crispy coating.
