Description

A delicious twist on the classic club sandwich with layers of crispy bacon, fresh vegetables, and savory meats between crunchy toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 3 slices thick-cut white or whole wheat sandwich bread (preferably sturdy sourdough)
  • 4 strips thick-cut bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced deli turkey breast (or roast chicken)
  • 3 ounces thinly sliced ham (optional)
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • Crisp Romaine or iceberg lettuce leaves, washed and dried
  • 1 medium ripe tomato, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pickles or avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Lay the 4 strips of bacon in the pan without overlapping. Cook for 6-8 minutes, flipping until crispy and golden. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  2. Toast the bread: Use a toaster or skillet to toast the slices of bread until golden and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Keep a close watch to avoid over-browning.
  3. Prepare the spread: In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the Dijon mustard until smooth and well-combined. Set aside.
  4. Slice the tomatoes: Cut the medium ripe tomato into medium-thick slices (about 1/4 inch) and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Lay one slice of toasted bread on your work surface. Spread a generous layer of the mayo-mustard mixture. Layer with turkey, lettuce, and tomato slices. Place the second slice of bread on top.
  6. Build the next layer: Spread mayo on the second slice of bread. Add ham, crispy bacon, and cheese. Finish with the last slice of bread. Optionally add pickles or avocado.
  7. Secure and slice: Use toothpicks to hold the layers together. Cut the sandwich diagonally into quarters for easy serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can save a tablespoon of bacon fat for toasting the bread. To prevent sogginess, place lettuce on top of the condiments.
