Description
A hearty one-pot meal blending shrimp, smoky sausage, and seasoned rice into a comfort dish with bold Cajun flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 1 lb shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 8 oz smoked sausage (sliced)
- 1 cup bell peppers (chopped)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 green onions (chopped for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare your ingredients by chopping the bell peppers and onion. If using frozen shrimp, allow it to thaw.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, sauté chopped onion and bell peppers until softened.
- Add sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned.
- Stir in minced garlic and Cajun seasoning; cook until fragrant but be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the rice, stirring well to coat with flavors. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, add shrimp, cover tightly, and simmer for about 20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Fluff rice with a fork, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve hot.
Notes
For perfect Shrimp Sausage Dirty Rice, keep the heat steady when browning and reduce it for the simmer. Use a tight-fitting lid for even cooking. Check the rice close to the end of cooking and add broth if needed. Let the dish rest covered for 5 minutes before fluffing.
