Description

Chicken Shawarma made easy: juicy oven-roasted chicken with bold spices and simple toppings. Quick, tasty, and family-friendly.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Pita bread, for serving
  • Toppings: tahini sauce, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, onion


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, salt, pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice to make a marinade.
  2. Add chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Marinate for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight).
  3. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  4. Place marinated chicken on a baking sheet in a single layer and roast for about 25-30 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes.
  6. Slice the chicken into strips.
  7. Serve in pita bread with your choice of toppings such as tahini sauce, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, and onion.

Notes

For best results, avoid overcrowding the pan. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness. Rest the meat before slicing to keep it juicy.
