Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake: easy, hearty casserole with beef, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. Ready in under an hour.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with onions and mushrooms. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the beef mixture with beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, and frozen vegetables. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Spread the mixture in a baking dish.
  5. Top with mashed potatoes, spreading them evenly over the beef mixture.
  6. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until heated through and the top is golden brown.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

For perfect results, avoid skipping the fat drain step. Use hot mashed potatoes so they form a smooth top. If your oven runs hot, check the bake at 25 minutes to prevent over-browning.
